In Slovenia, a venoactive medicine is available that contains micronized purified flavonoid fraction (Detralex). Many respected medical associations recommend it for the treatment of all stages of chronic venous insufficiency. 
This medication reduces inflammation in the microcirculation, thereby protecting the veins from damage and effectively reducing symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency such as pain, heavy legs, and cramps. In combination with other treatment methods, it is also used in more advanced stages of the disease.
Micronized purified flavonoid fraction has been shown to long-term reduce swelling and to promote healing of venous ulcers. It acts on the underlying cause of the disease and has been proven to improve the quality of life of patients with chronic venous insufficiency.
Detralex is available in pharmacies without a prescription. The recommended dose is two tablets daily, either taken together or split into one tablet in the morning and one in the evening. The effect on symptom reduction typically appears after three weeks to one month of use.
