Andrej Šikovec, MD, MSc – Consultant Vascular Surgeon founded Avelana the vascular clinic with the desire to offer effective and minimally invasive treatment for patients with venous system disorders.
He was the first in Slovenia and the wider region to begin performing endovenous laser treatment of varicose veins. Compared to the classical “stripping” surgical technique, this procedure is performed under local anesthesia, significantly reduces pain, and shortens the patient’s recovery time.
We have become a training center for laser methods of venous disease treatment and a partner of the Slovenian multinational company Fotona d.d.
Prim. Šikovec gladly and collegially shares his surgical knowledge. Both surgical residents and experienced surgeons from around the world receive training at the surgical center. To date, more than 250 doctors from Slovenia and abroad (Greece, Hungary, North Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia, Russia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Poland, Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, Montenegro, Norway, Indonesia, South Africa, Lebanon, United States of America, United Kingdom, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Australia, and Switzerland) have learned the technique of endovenous laser obliteration of veins from Prim. Šikovec.
