We are specialists in the treatment of venous diseases. To date, more than 17,000 patients have trusted us, and we have performed over 10,000 surgical procedures for varicose vein treatment under local anesthesia.

In addition to our leading activity in the treatment of venous diseases — which is currently the only activity concessioned by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia — we also offer self-pay services in the following fields:

The beginnings of Avelana date back to 2003, when the renowned surgeon prim. mag. Andrej Šikovec, with his enthusiasm and idealism, founded a vascular clinic with the desire to provide effective and minimally invasive treatment for patients with venous system disorders. He was the first in Slovenia and the wider region to begin endovenous laser treatment of varicose veins, which — compared to the classical “stripping” surgical technique — is performed under local anesthesia, significantly reduces pain, and shortens the recovery period after the procedure.

We have become a training center for laser methods of venous disease treatment and a partner of the Slovenian multinational company Fotona d.d.

The year 2017 was a turning point for Avelana, as we built the first private hospital in the Dolenjska region. It is located just a few kilometers from the Ljubljana–Zagreb motorway and exactly halfway between the two capital cities. The Avelana Surgical Center lies among the green Dolenjska hills above the romantic Krka River in the settlement of Otočec.

We have three operating theatres equipped with the latest Maquet equipment (one of which also allows hybrid procedures, combining open and endovascular surgery), an intensive care unit, patient rooms, and a day hospital. In total, there are 12 beds on 1,600 m² of space, including three single rooms and two superior suites that offer the highest level of privacy, peace, and comfort to the most demanding patients.
